DIY: Fall Leaf Canvas

DIY: Fall Leaf Canvas

Oct 04, 2015

Easiest project ever this weekend - get excited.

Soooo I haven't exactly been feelin' the Fall mood lately. I know - wtf, right? Halloween is my jam.

Usually.

But I think it's because the past two years that we've spent in Colorado, Fall came on FULL FORCE. Chilly weather, pumpkin everything, plaid flannels, the works. This year however, it's been so warm that it still feels like summer but with a side of pumpkin spice latte. Seriously. IT WAS 80 DEGREES YESTERDAY!

So after a few good rounds of moping and wishing I were in Florida for "Howl-O-Scream" (Florida may not have the Fall weather, but it does have theme parks that Do. Halloween. RIGHT.), I finally busted out the tub o' Halloween goodness from the storage closet and tried to fall-i-fy my apartment to 'darken' the mood (hah).

I needed to remove my glittery deer canvases from the sides of my TV (they didn't exactly go with crows and skulls...) so I figured I should make something similar to replace them, for the Fall season. They didn't have black canvases at Michaels in the right size, so I bought the regular white canvas (I bought the 12 in x 24 in. size, but just get whatever size you want depending on where in your home you'll place them), slapped some black acrylic paint on 'em, and got to work.

You'll need:

  • Black canvases (or white canvas and black paint - let it dry before starting)
  • Fall foliage garland strand (Michaels does sell bags of loose leaves, but none of them were glittery....so there's that.  Plus, you get more leaves with the garland strand!)
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun & glue sticks

1.) Cut your leaves off your garland, and arrange on your canvas however you'd like.

2.) Let your cat play with the extra garland.

3.) Hot glue those babies down!

4.) Hang for the world to admire

5.) Garnish with skulls, candles, dead bodies...whatever you have lying around.

6.) Enjoy your new Halloween-themed TV viewing area!

Enhance the experience by watching the greatest movie of all time (obviously, Hocus Pocus) Oh, and by whipping up some easy Halloween treats: Peanut-Butter White Chocolate Pretzel Mummies, Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes, Pumpkin Spice Waffle Ice Cream Sandwiches, or these Fall Inspired Candy Popcorn Balls!

And don't forget to check out the other seasonal renditions of this project: Glitter Deer Silhouette Canvases for the winter, and these adorable Pineapple Mosaic Canvases for summer!
